To begin your stay in Venice, you must first answer an important question: how do you get to Venice from Marco Polo Airport?

Marco Polo Airport is only 12 km from the city of Venice and is well connected to Piazzale Roma (historic center) and the center of Mestre. There are several options for reaching the heart of the Venetian lagoon and its islands.
Shared water taxi
Duration: 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the stop).
This is the most pleasant and scenic way to reach the city of Venice. Aboard a comfortable Venetian taxi, you will reach the pier closest to your hotel or apartment in 20 to 30 minutes. In some cases, you will be dropped off right in front of your accommodation. A shared transport that is a true tour of the lagoon and the majestic Grand Canal.
The service is available from 8:00 am to 11:45 pm from the airport and from 7:00 am to 8:15 pm from Venice to Marco Polo.
The shared water taxi must be booked online to “group” customers, in which case the price is €35 per person, and the wait at the airport is only 10 minutes.
The shared water taxi (maximum 6 people) costs 35€, while the Alilaguna ticket costs between 16€ and 19€ (with 40-60 people on board). The taxi will drop you off directly in Venice at your hotel or near your apartment without you having to cross bridges with your luggage, and it is also much faster than the Alilaguna, which has to make numerous stops along the way.

Alilaguna public transportation
Duration: 20 to 50 minutes (depending on the stop).
Alilaguna is the public transportation linking Marco Polo to Venice. It operates on three lines and covers the city of Venice, Murano, Burano, and the Venice Lido. The cost is about €19 per person (depending on the day). To avoid long queues at the ticket office and sell-out situations, it is advisable to book online here.

ATVO shuttle bus
Duration: 25 minutes for Piazzale Roma and 15 for Mestre
ATVO is the only company that operates the shuttle bus service between Marco Polo Airport and Venice. It makes stops in both Mestre (at the train station) and Piazzale Roma. ATVO buses offer various amenities, including free Wi-Fi, luggage compartment, guaranteed seating and air conditioning. They make only two stops: one at the bus station in Piazzale Roma and the other at the Mestre train station.
The service runs from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. and takes about 20 to 25 minutes to reach the airport, where you get off in front of the Terminal 1 entrance.
During the peak season, it can often happen that some trips are already sold out or there are long lines at the ticket office, so, as with everything in Venice, it is advisable to book online in advance:

Bus ACTV Line 5
Duration: about 30 minutes to Piazzale Roma, less if stopping at Mestre.
This is the classic bus route from Venice to Marco Polo Airport. Make the following stops:
VENEZIA – S.Giuliano – Orlanda – Sabbadino – Passo Campalto – Orlanda – Tessera – AEROPORTO M.POLO.
This service operates from 4 a.m. to midnight. Buses leave every 15 to 20 minutes.
The advantages of this means of transportation are definitely not in the comfort of travel (there is no air conditioning and seating is not guaranteed), but the fact that the ticket purchased will also be valid for the vaporetto. Then, as soon as you arrive at Piazzale Roma, you can board the vaporetto to reach your accommodation.
Book the different options here, you can choose between an airport transfer + a single vaporetto ride or one with a transportation ticket valid for one or more days. Especially for ACTV tickets, it is highly recommended to book online to avoid long lines at physical ticket offices and self-service ticket booths.

Private water taxi
Duration: 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the destination).
The most luxurious and comfortable means of transportation is undoubtedly the private taxi: you will be taken directly to your accommodation in a wonderful Venetian taxi all to yourself. Since the service is private, it is mandatory to book it in advance:

Keep in mind that private cabs may have additional charges (to be paid to the cab driver) if your accommodation is on some islands that are a bit out of the way such as San Clemente, Rose Island, or the Lido. An extra fee may also be due if the hotel or apartment is located in a canal with “difficult access.” These surcharges can range from €20 to €30 each way.
Treviso Canova Airport
Duration: 60 minutes
Treviso Airport is 30 km from Piazzale Roma and is the main hub for Ryanair.
ATVO organizes shuttle buses that leave every hour and take you directly to Mestre (central station) or Venice Piazzale Roma. Same frequency for the reverse route. This is the most convenient solution, as a private cab to Venice (or vice versa) would cost over 90 euros.
Thanks to ATVO, on the other hand, with only €12 per person you can conveniently reach Venice or the airport, sitting comfortably and enjoying Wi-Fi and air conditioning on board.
